Change of half term dates, Michaelmas term 2012

Despite our very best efforts to co-ordinate our term dates in advance, our proposed Michaelmas Term 2012 half term dates were different to the West Sussex state schools and many of the local independent schools, resulting in a large number of our parents facing the prospect of having to take 3 weeks’ leave from work to cover the break. Therefore we have taken the difficult decision to change our dates from Sat 13th Oct to Sun 28th Oct to Sat 20th Oct to Sun 4th Nov 2012.

We apologise for this change which we know will inconvenience anyone who has already made plans. We will put together voluntary work packs for any children who will be missing school because of this change.

We hope that this change helps those parents with children at several different schools and we offer sincere apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced. Please do come and see us if you would like to discuss this matter further.

If anyone has child-care issues for the second week of the new half term dates (that is from Monday 29th Oct to Fri 2nd Nov) as a result of this change, Sarah Mayhead and Yvonne Lee will be offering an extra ‘Camp Oakwood’ which will cater for all Oakwood pupils, from Nursery to Year 6. Please contact Mrs Mayhead in the school office for further details of this facility.

The triumphant U11 A football team were pleased enough to have won the prestigious Wessex League trophy this term, and were expecting to receive to award from Oakwood Headteacher Gill Proctor at final assembly. But instead, Pompey in the Community coaches were so impressed by the boys' achievement that they have offered the whole squad the chance to watch a home Pompey game in February - and to receive their trophy on the pitch at half time!

We would like to thank Pompey in the Community for their incredible generosity and I know that the boys (and the games staff) can't wait!
