Introduction to Oakwood School

Oakwood Prep School was founded in 1912 and has grown into a thriving co-educational preparatory day school and nursery, for 250 children aged between 2˝ to 11.
The School is set in 160 acres of glorious park and woodland between the South Downs and the coast. Oakwood's home is a large Georgian country house.
Our children learn in a wonderfully safe and spacious environment in the heart of beautiful Sussex countryside, only two miles from Chichester.
Mission Statement and School Aims
Oakwood School exists to provide education of the highest practicable quality and variety for children aged 2˝ to 11 years, enabling them to gain entry to appropriate senior schools and thrive there.
To fulfill its mission, the School aims:
• To give each child a well-balanced education, developing intellectual, creative and physical talents to the full and nurturing a sense of moral and spiritual awareness.
• To celebrate successes within a supportive environment that encourages children to develop the confidence and optimism to take risks, to try out new challenges and discover new aptitudes and interests without the fear of failure.
• To work in partnership with parents, within a friendly, secure and disciplined community, to encourage every pupil to act with integrity, responsibility and concern for others.
Our school ethos states:
Oakwood School is a welcoming school where everyone is valued highly and where tolerance, honesty, co-operation and mutual respect for others are fostered. We are committed to the development of the whole person within a supportive, secure and creative environment. A broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum provides equal opportunity for all pupils to maximise their potential regardless of age, sex, colour, religion or disability. We endeavor to promote positive relationships with parents, governors and members of the wider community.
