Working Together

The partnership between home and school is crucial. We welcome parental involvement and our staff are always happy to meet informally with parents to discuss a child's progress or welfare.

Every child in Upper School has a termly Homework Diary, which enables parents to monitor homwork and keep a check on progress. The children in Pre-Prep have communication books, so that parents can note down any issues that they wish the Form Teacher to be aware of.

In addition to this important day-to-day contact there are termly Parents Evenings and Open Mornings.

Friday Assemblies are also a great way of becoming involved. Every Friday parents are invited to the School Assembly. Each week a different year group (from Reception to Year 6) present a themed assembly. Before the assembly children perform musical and drama pieces. During assembly the Headmaster also presents that week's awards, credit and merit certificates and star badges, as well as the House Cup. Parents are also encouraged to bring in certificates from outside events and clubs so that their child's achievements can be celebrated. These assemblies are a wonderful opportunity for the parents to see their children perform or receive an award from the Headmaster. They are informal occasions which truly embrance the Oakwood spirit.

The school is well supported by The Friends of Oakwood (FOO), who organise social events for parents and offer a wealth of practical support to the school. They arrange regular meetings and publish a Newsletter.

Parents are welcomed to matches and teas, concerts, plays, the carol service, sports days, the summer fair and Speech Day.
