Oakwood School has been awarded 'School of the Year' at the Breast Cancer Campaign annual awards. We were thrilled to welcome Kiran, the 8 year old Indian girl who had her cleft lip repaired by the Operation Smile team in December at Oakwood today with a team from Blue Peter who were filming her visit. She spent the day with Year 4, and had a wonderful time: we all enjoyed meeting her and Helen, the Blue Peter presenter and Barney, the lovely Blue Peter dog! Oakwood pupils continued their support for the fantastic work of Operation Smile with a mufti day today, raising over £175 for the life-changing charity. The next practical project was also launched by 6F in their 'Blue Peter' assembly: every pupil has been asked to make a small 'Smile' bag for a child whose cleft palate or lip has been operated on, containing basic hygiene items, a card and a small toy. Oakwood is so proud to be supporting this year's Blue Peter Appeal: Operation Smile, which operates on the cleft lips and palates of poor and disadvantaged children all over the world. Every pupil and quite a few staff and parents are swimming as many lengths of the Oakwood pool as they can to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. Even the Nursery children are joining in, completing an impressive number of widths unaided. Almost 30 children are swimming a mile, an exhausting 109 lengths! [more]

Parents at Oakwood School raised over £2600 for Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice in Poling, near Arundel. The money was raised at the annual Summer Ball held in the grounds of the school on the last day of the summer term. The children of the Pre-Prep department braved the rain this morning to complete The Big Toddle in aid of Barnado’s, the childrens’ charity. Pupils at Oakwood School have been raising money today for SightSavers International! Everyone loved the chance to wear their own clothes, and each class had the chance to spend some pennies at the cake sale and the Bring & Buy. The cakes were all absolutely delicious, and there was an amazing array of donated toys and books for the children to browse at the sale. We raised over £570! [more]

Oakwood School donned trainers and silly socks this week to run a mile for Sports Relief. Everyone, from the Little Oaks Nursery children to the Headmaster had a go at completing the mile circuit around the Oakwood playing fields and we raised an amazing £497! This week, Oakwood School pupils travelled to the Link Romania depot in Worthing to deliver 115 shoeboxes filled with presents and supplies to help poverty stricken families in Romania have a happier Christmas. Unexpectedly, they arrived just in time to add their boxes to a lorry about to leave, so they had the chance to meet one of the Romanian lorry drivers who could give them a first hand account of what their generosity means. The children in the Pre-Prep at Oakwood School celebrated the Harvest Festival today.The service was delightful with the Kindergarten starting the morning with a song about the Harvest. This was followed by the Year 1 and 2 children who sang beautifully as well as led the prayers.The service was held by The Venerable John Holliman who spoke to the children about the important of the Harvest.
