Despite our very best efforts to co-ordinate our term dates in advance, our proposed Michaelmas Term 2012 half term dates were different to the West Sussex state schools and many of the local independent schools, resulting in a large number of our parents facing the prospect of having to take 3 weeks’ leave from work to cover the break. Many congratulations to Mrs Niki Blair who has been appointed the new Little Oaks Nursery Room Manager. Gemma Woods, who will still act as Nursery and Kindergarten Co-ordinator, is moving to replace Mrs Enice Bell as the Hedgehogs class teacher and Niki, who has been a valued member of the Nursery staff for a while now, will take over the day to day responsibilities for Little Oaks Nursery. We are pleased to announce that Commodore James Fanshawe CBE has now been elected as the new Chair of Governors of Oakwood School. With over 25 years’ experience in the Royal Navy, culminating in the command of the United Kingdom Task Group and the Devonport Flotilla, James now runs his own consultancy company and serves on several Boards as Chairman, Director or President. Everyone has arrived back at Oakwood full of summer news and more than ready for the challenges and opportunities of a new term and year! Well done to the six Oakwood pupils who won through from 3000 pupils to the final 300 to compete in the semi-finals of the national Eurotalk competition this week in Hook in Hampshire. All six performed brilliantly and showed great determination but they just missed places in the grand final. Still, everyone enjoyed the experience and can at least say hello in Japanese now! [more]

Oakwood pupils answered a staggering 117,000 questions for the World Maths Challenge on Wednesday and Thursday. Competing against schoolchildren from all over the world, pupils from Yrs 2 to 6 played as many games as they could in their allotted times and performed magnificently! Well done to everyone who took part, and prizes will be awarded next week to the top competitors! [more]

The Pre-Prep Department have been celebrating the Year of the Tiger today! In honour of the Chinese New Year, Miss Lee has been preparing oriental snacks, the children have been making chinese lanterns, colouring chinese posters and having their faces painted to look like tigers.
