Captain Hook took charge at Oakwood School today, ably assisted by Wonder Woman and a team of Oompa Loompas, as staff and pupils celebrated World Book Day by dressing as their favourite fictional characters. Plenty of Harry Potters and Horrid Henrys were in evidence, along with Mary Poppins and Bert the chimney sweep! Oakwood School welcomed the Year of the Rat in splendid style today. Class 4F started off with a wonderful Assembly all about the traditions of Chinese New Year and then the Pre-Prep department spent the morning making lanterns, trying to eat rice and noodles with chopsticks, creating wonderful dragons and dressing up. Every classroom was wonderfully decorated and we all enjoyed our Oriental day!

The Oakwood School Choir has reached the semi-finals of the prestigious BBC Choir of the Year competition! Rehearsals are in full swing for the next stage of the contest which takes place in Warwick on 8th March. The Year 5 pupils from Oakwood School spent the day at Lancing College.The children spent the day with 7 other Preparatory Schools, learning songs that they later performed in the day to a group of gathered parents.A fun day was had by all and the children sang beautifully and behaved immaculately. 28 girls and boys from Oakwood School in Chichester took part in the LAMDA Speech and Drama exams this term and all the children passed with a flurry of fantastic marks. Children from both the Pre Prep and Upper School attend Speech and Drama lessons and the youngest of the children taking the exams was just 6 years old. Pupils from Oakwood School performed brilliantly in their end of term musical concert.There was something for everyone, including recorders, guitars, trumpets, a clarinet, the mini orchestra and singing. The Oakwood School choir was triumphant in the Chichester Festival competition today. The fifty strong choir, comprised of children in the Upper School, performed superbly and won 1st prize.The judge commented that they had chosen two challenging pieces but that the children had performed with passion, conviction and confidence.
