Every pupil and (nearly) every member of staff gathered in the Lyne Hall this morning for a sing-a-long session! Today is National Sing Up! Day, designed to promote the positive effects of singing for both children and adults, and after some rousing versions of 'If you're happy and you know it' and 'Bungalow', the big smiles on everyone's faces certainly proved that singing is very good for body and soul!

The two Pre-Prep Nativity plays have been a runaway success, with "Ralph the Reindeer" by Years 1 & 2 and "The Bossy Queen" by the Foundation Stage children captivating everyone who saw them. well done to the actors and actresses, who all gave wonderful performances and to the staff who all worked so tirelessly to put on such professional shows!

The Oakwood School Choir continued its run of amazing success with a double win at the Arun Festival; not only were they voted the best choir at the Festival itself against some stiff competition but also scooped first prize at the prestigious Winners' Concert a week later! 2M put on a very funny and informative assembly today, all about the history of Guy Fawkes and Bonfire night. They demonstrated the dangers of playing with fireworks with some very imaginative props and spirited acting! [more]

Year 4 have been immersed in Roman life this week, with a trip to Bignor Roman Villa and a fascinating assembly by 4B on the destruction of Pompeii. Combining history with geography, the project has clearly caught the imagination of the pupils. Optime! [more]

This year has seen a record number of Oakwood pupils achieving Merits and Distinctions in their music and speech & drama LAMDA exams taken at the end of the summer term. In Speech and Drama, of the 36 exams taken 14 were awarded Merits and an incredible 22 achieved a Distinction. Kidz Talk, the new Oakwood rock band, had its first performance this morning at the weekly whole school assembly. Their fantastic version of 'Let me entertain you' wowed the parents and pupils and we look forward to hearing much more from them! [more]

The Pre-Prep children charmed parents and staff this morning with a beautiful Spring Concert to mark the end of term. Every class sang wonderfully and had clearly put in a lot of effort rehearsing and learning their songs! Well done to the Oakwood School junior choir who took 2nd at the Chichester Choir Festival today.They sang their little hearts out and made the school extremely proud. The children were younger than the winning choir but no doubt picking the winner was a tough decision. Year 1 had a thrilling trip to the Minerva Theatre today to see a full symphony orchestra in concert for the Southern Pro Musica Childrens' Concert. Everyone enjoyed the chance to see each instrument and to learn about the orchestra, and loved the songs and music. Following on from Oakwood School's choir success in the BBC3 Choir of the Year competition, the school was invited to perform at the Festival Hall in London.The school got through to the quarter finals and although there did not progress any further, the school was visited by the BBC to undertake a workshop with their choir.The workshop was a huge success and the children were taught many vital and interesting lessons on breathing and voice...
