At Oakwood we ensure that there are good links between home and school. We believe encouraging pupils to engage in small amounts of work at home increases their confidence, independence and love of learning.  Homework in the Pre-Prep should not be time consuming and should just be a short, relaxed time reinforcing the core skills being learned at school.

In the Pre-Prep, teachers communicate with parents via a Reading Diary/Record which is used to record reading both at home and school.  Parents are asked to hear their child read every day throughout the Pre-Prep, as we believe strongly that reading forms the vital building blocks to learning.  Parents are informed on the topics and subject areas covered in school via the Curriculum Overview published each term on the website.

To help children unlock the door to a world of words, the children in Reception take home phonic cards from the start of the school year.  Children are encouraged to become familiar with maths skills in the form of weekly homework in their own workbook.

We are always delighted to see children independently decide to complete additional work when their imagination takes hold and we celebrate and reward these endeavours.
