World Book Day Pre-Loved Costume Sale - Donations of costumes welcome; please deliver to the main office. 

Year 1 Trip to Goodwood Home Farm: To support our topic ‘What’s on the Menu?’ we have organised a trip to Goodwood Home Farm on Monday 24th February. Pupils will leave school at 9am in the school minibuses and will return in time for the end of the school day at 3.30pm. A packed lunch will be provided by school. Children should come to school in their ‘outdoor learning’ clothes (tracksuit trousers, longsleeved tops) and their green waterproof coat. They should wear trainers to school and they will change into wellies for the trip (please ensure these are in school). Please could you ensure children also have warm socks for their wellies. Finally, please could everyone bring a NAMED plastic bag, this is so that the children can change out of their wellies once we leave the farm.

Swimming IAPS Regional Qualifier @ Windlesham House School, 1pm start: Good luck to the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils representing Oakwood at the IAPS Qualifier on Monday 24th February. Children will leave at 11.30am and will return to Oakwood in time for normal pick-up. 

Reception Squirrels Forest School - MOVED TO WEDNESDAY: This will now take place on Wednesday 26th February, in a change to the published calendar

Nursery Parent/Key Worker Meetings, Pre-Prep Hall, 3.50-5.30pm: Nursery Key Worker meetings will take place on Monday 24th February in the Pre-Prep Hall, between 3.50-5.30pm. Supervision is available in Nursery for the duration of your appointment if needed. Please use the Parent Booking link below if you are still to book your appointment.

Year 4 Parents' Evening, Lyne Hall and Gym from 4.30pm onwards: Year 4 Parents’ Evening with subject teachers will take place on Monday 24th February from 4.30pm. A reminder of your time slots will be sent on the morning of the event. Please contact the school office if you are unable to attend or have any queries relating to the booking system.

Introduction to Reception for current Kindergarten families, 2-3.15pm: We invite current Kindergarten parents to attend an ‘Introduction to Reception’ session on Thursday 27th February, 2-3.15pm. Parents will be able to visit the Reception classes to observe the afternoon activities, meet the Reception teachers and view relevant items of interest in the Pre-Prep Hall where refreshments will also be available.  

If your child does not normally attend Kindergarten on a Thursday, you are welcome to drop them in Kindergarten so that you can attend this session.

Friday Assembly: Our Assembly on Friday 28th February will celebrate our Chichester Festival Speech & Drama Achievers. Winners from each category will be performing in the assembly and families of the performers are welcome to attend the assembly in the Lyne Hall from 8.35am. Refreshments will be served for parents in the Heritage Room after assembly. Please can cup winners bring the cups into school during the week after half term, so that Mrs Bradbury can present them in assembly.

Great Ballard Quiz Competition at Great Ballard: Good luck to two teams of Year 5 & 6 pupils who have been selected represent Oakwood at a general knowledge quiz on Friday 28th February. Pupils will leave Oakwood at 10.30am and enjoy lunch at Great Ballard after the quiz, before returning to sschool around 1.30pm.

'Champagne and Shakespeare' Charity Evening, Heritage Room, 7-8pm: We look forward to welcoming those who have booked to attend our evening in aid of Chichester Festival Theatre's 'Nest' Project.

Thank you to all who have bought tickets to the Champagne and Shakespeare Charity Event on Sunday 2nd March, raising money for the Chichester Festival Theatre Nest project.

St Wilfrid's Hospice have asked us to share with you a fundraising event in aid of the hospice which is happening in May 2025; their first ever charity Golf Day at Cowdray Park Golf Club. 

The St Wilfrid's Hospice Golf Day starts at 8.30am with registration, followed by bacon rolls & coffee in the bar and a briefing, where maps will be provided. The 18-hole course commences at 10am across the 18-holes. This starting format is a fabulous way of ensuring that all golfers and teams can enjoy the two-course meal and prize giving together from 14.30pm. There will be the opportunity to purchase the homemade refreshments from the wonderful St. Wilfrid’s Hospice kitchen, whilst making your way around the course, and some fantastic prizes to be won with our raffle and auction.

Pupil-led Charity Sale Afternoon, Main House, 3.30-5.30pm: 

To finish off this half of term, come and support the stalls at the charity sale event THIS AFTERNOON from 3.30pm outside the main house. There will be baked goods, 3D printed hairclips, bookmarks and key rings, and a few other fun things, all raising money for our school charities 'The Rainbow Centre' and 'Save the Children.' 

Please remember to bring some pennies to the sale, and donations can also be added to school bills.

World Book Day 2025 is fast approaching (on Thursday 6th March), and before you start purchasing new costumes, we ask you to consider buying pre-loved costumes for this year's event (and donating any old and unused costumes).

Parent volunteers will be running a pre-loved Book Day costume pop-up shop in aid of our school charities at Oakwood on Wednesday 26th - Friday 28th February, in the Heritage Room.

Any child or adult costumes and accessory donations can be dropped into the school office after half term, on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th February, in advance of the pop-up shop opening on the Wednesday.

Tiger Tags is a new School Name Tag Supplier, powered by Xmas4Schools who we have worked with before.

We have partnered with Tiger Tags who provide customised name labels in both sticker and iron-on form for all your child's school uniform and equipment. We would of course wholeheartedly encourage you to label all your child's possessions clearly as this saves valuable school time and resources in terms of lost property and also provides you with significant savings in not having to replace lost items.

The fundraising potential we have with using Tiger Tags is also a clear bonus and will be a very welcome addition to our other charity fundraising activities.

If your child experiences vomiting or diarrhoea, they must stay off school for a clear 48 hours from the last episode of illness. This is in line with current NHS advice for schools and workplaces. 

If your child has an epsiode of either of the above whilst at school, we will contact home and your child must be collected. 

NHS Diarrhoea and Vomiting

Head Lice and Nits are very common in young children and their families. They are not caused by dirty hair and are picked up by head-to-head contact.

If Head Lice or Nits are found at school, we will ask for children to stay off school until their head has been treated, after which they may return. This is to help prevent the spread around school which happens very quickly.

We recommend regularly checking your children's hair and treating with an appropriate pharmaceutical product. 

We also recommend that long hair is tied back for school days, to reduce the risk of head to head transfer.

NHS Head Lice and Nits Advice

Chickenpox is common and mostly affects children, but you can get it at any age. It usually gets better by itself after 1 to 2 weeks without needing to see a GP.

If your child develops chickenpox, please keep them at home until no longer contagious (once ALL the spots have crusted over). 

Symptoms are: a mild flu-like illness (nausea, raised temperature, aching or stiff muscles, headache, loss of appetite) followed, one to three weeks later, by the appearance of small, itchy red spots in clusters on the face, scalp, behind the ears and on the torso. 

After 12 to 14 hours, the spots develop into fluid filled blisters which become intensely itchy. After several days, the blisters begin to dry out and crust over.

NHS Chickenpox Advice

Threadworms (pinworms) are tiny worms visible in faeces. They're common in children and spread easily. You can treat them without seeing a GP.

The treatment for threadworms is very straightforward and involves everyone in the family taking a small, chewable tablet or liquid you swallow which can be purchased from any pharmacy. It is important that every member of the family is treated as symptoms may not be apparent. Good hygiene is vital in preventing the spread of threadworms; please encourage children to wash hands after visiting the toilet and before eating.

Threadworm treatment may not be appropriate for children under two years old or for pregnant or breastfeeding women. In these circumstances, advice should be sought from a GP.

The symptoms of threadworms include itching around the bottom, irritability, difficulty in getting to sleep and loss of appetite.

The Little Green Shop is our pre-loved uniform shop, run by Oakwood Parent Volunteers.

We are delighted to receive items of uniform for resale.  

Labelled, donated items are sold with 75% returning to the seller and 25% to FOO funds.  If any unlabelled items are left at the shop it will be assumed that these are a donation to FOO.

Reuse, Recycle and Relove!

In order to streamline the stock in the Little Green Shop, going forward the parent volunteers will be focusing on stocking just branded and Oakwood specific uniform items. 

As such, we will no longer be accepting donations of generic and non-uniform items. This includes:

White shirts, grey shorts and trousers, base layer skins (tops and bottoms), tights, ankle socks and shoes.

We are grateful for donations already received, but thank you for your future support with just donating Oakwood specific uniform. 

A reminder that we do have an Astra clothing and shoes recycling bin by the Year 4 classrooms which does generate money for the school's Green Team budget should you have any generic items to recycle.
