Family events at Oakwood next week
Groovy Grandparents’ Afternoon, Friday 13th June, 1.30pm - 4.00pm (please note the slightly earlier start time)
We look forward to welcoming grandparents (or a significant older adult in your children's lives) to an afternoon at Oakwood next Friday.
- Please complete the Groovy Grandparents Form to advise us if your child/ren will have a relative attending the event.
- On this occasion, it is politely requested that parents do not attend, there are many events for parents and this afternoon has been set aside specifically for grandparents.
- Due to the space available in classrooms we ask that a maximum of two grandparents join us for the afternoon.
- Grandparents will have the opportunity to visit their grandchild/ren and take part in an activity. Members of staff will ensure that grandparents are guided to the correct areas of the school for these sessions.
- Where grandparents have more than two grandchildren to visit, we will be asking them to ‘divide and conquer’ visiting up to two grandchildren each rather than all of them.
- All pupils will be involved in an activity regardless of grandparent attendance.
- Children who do not usually attend on a Friday should arrive at school at 1.30pm with either their grandparent or parent and make their way directly to Nursery or Kindergarten as appropriate.
Pre-Prep Timings
- 1.30pm: Grandparents of Pre-Prep grandchildren (Nursery to Year 2) arrive and meet in Pre-Prep playground.
- 1.35-2.30pm: Grandparents will be directed to classrooms for activities with their grandchildren.
- 2.30-3.15pm: Grandparents of Pre-Prep grandchildren (Nursery to Year 2) make their way to the back of the Heritage Room for afternoon tea. Pre-Prep Grandparents with Prep School grandchildren will be escorted to Prep School classrooms at 3.15pm.
Prep School Timings
- 2.30pm - 3.15pm: Grandparents of Prep School only grandchildren (Year 3 to Year 6) are welcome to join us for afternoon tea on the back lawn before visiting classrooms/activities.
- 3.15pm - 4.00pm: Grandparents of Prep School grandchildren visit classrooms/involved in activities.
Year 3-5 Speech & Drama 'Forest Fables' Promenade Show in the Woods, Friday 13th June, 5pm & 5.30pm
Parents are invited to ‘promenade’ around the Oakwood Woods, which will be clearly signed and manned by staff to guide you along the trail. The children will perform in several locations in the woods. To enable us to manage numbers we ask that if your last name starts with the letters A-J you attend the 5pm performances and K-Z the 5.30pm performances.
On arrival, please make your way to the entrance to the woodland area, where there will be colourful bunting on the fence and there you will be met by staff to guide you through the woods. All of the children will be ready for collection at the end of the second set of performances which we anticipate will finish by 6.30pm. We ask you to collect your child/children from the Drama studio (behind the Lyne Hall).
Weather permitting, we invite you to bring your own picnic and rugs/chairs. We will all meet on the lawns outside the Heritage Room after the performances to enjoy picnics and the company of other families. The event should finish around 7.30pm.
Pupils who are performing will be supervised by staff after school and they will be offered a light tea. Unfortunately, pupils who normally attend Pathway Football will not be able to do so on this occasion.

Little Green Shop - Second hand Uniform Shop
The Little Green Shop is our pre-loved uniform shop, run by Oakwood Parent Volunteers. Reuse, Recycle and Relove!
Current opening hours: Monday 8.30am-9am and Friday 8.30am-9am
- We are delighted to receive items of uniform for resale.
- Labelled, donated items are sold with 75% returning to the seller and 25% to FOO funds. If any unlabelled items are left at the shop it will be assumed that these are a donation to FOO.
- PDF or hard copies of the T&Cs, uniform labels and master lists are available from the school office and in the Parent Section of this website.
Little Green Shop - Items suitable for donation/selling
- In order to streamline the stock in the Little Green Shop, going forward the parent volunteers will be focusing on stocking just branded and Oakwood specific uniform items.
- As such, we will no longer be accepting donations of generic and non-uniform items. This includes white shirts, grey shorts and trousers, base layer skins (tops and bottoms), tights, ankle socks and shoes.
- We are grateful for donations already received, but thank you for your future support with just donating Oakwood specific uniform going forward.
- A reminder that we do have an Astra clothing and shoes recycling bin by the Year 4 classrooms which does generate money for the school's Green Team budget should you have any generic items to recycle.
Prep School Zippies: The traditional Prep School zippies are being phased out so there are no longer replacements avilable to purchase. We will gradually be moving over to the Oakwood Bookbags with handy shoulder strap, which are available to purchase from Perry Uniform.
